Your photos are a little tough to see. Also, it would help if there were photos of the marks on the pieces. See How to Post Photos at the top of the Forums page. What is your interest in these pieces? We always like to hear the nature of people's interest in the silver they are asking about. IP: Logged |

Hi. Are the photo's too dark? Too light? Let me know and I'll re-take them. #1 is a set I inherited from my grandmother. The rest I have single pieces of - can't even remember where I got them! Thanks for your help. As for the marks, there are only the words I posted under the pictures. If it would help to take pix of the words, I will do it. Thanks for your help. IP: Logged |

By the way, if you click on the photo, you will get a much larger view with the description underneath the picture. Hope this helps see them better! IP: Logged |

Hi Judy, #1 I can't seem to find an ID for this National Silverplate pattern. It probably dates from the 1930's though. #2 This is LADY MARY by Towle. The mark to the left of STERLING HANDLE is the Towle trademark. #3 This is FLORENCE, from about 1900. Crown Silver Plate was a cheaper line from International Silver. #4 This is BERKELEY, introduced in 1929. Wm. A. Rogers is a trademark of Oneida Silversmiths. I hope this helps. The pictures are just fine! Brent IP: Logged |

Brent! You are a darling! Thank you sooo much! If you come up with the 1st pattern, please post it. Of course, that one is the one I wanted to know most, since it was inherited, and I have almost 12 complete place settings. Thanks again! IP: Logged |

Judy, You are right. The blow up pictures help a lot. Brent got most of it covered. I'll see if we can find anything on the first pattern. IP: Logged |

National Silver Company is rather hard to research, as they went out of business some time ago and all of their records were disposed of. I went through two sources that each list about a dozen National silverplate patterns and couldn't find a match. It must have been a full-line pattern, but somehow the name escaped being recorded anywhere obvious. Brent IP: Logged |

It is not unusual to find that a silver plate manufacturer had patterns that seemingly didn't have a pattern name. Sometimes it was because the records were/have been lost but other times it was on purpose. Silver plate was mass marketed. Manufacturers discovered that when they allowed department stores and regional retailers to name and sell a pattern as their own that sales went up. A casual perusal would seem to indicate that this was a common practice in the first half of the 1900's. Often our references for silver plate may show the pattern and sometimes even patent date but not a pattern name. National Silver Co. has always been a bit of a problem for pattern matchers because about 20 plus patterns seem to have been marketed this way. Pattern matchers who sell to each other usually refer to these unnamed patterns by number, for example, "National Silver 1", "National Silver 2", etc. etc. Our research shows that pattern matchers may refer to this pattern as "National Silver Four".
