Good evening from Melbourne to you all. A friend has just purchased an 8" high ruby glass urn, cased in what they thought was silver. The only mark is on the foot and I don't think it is a silver mark but more likely plate. The item has a leather box and no lid. Is it a presentation piece of some sort or (as their daughter fears!) a cremation urn?? Would anyone have any idea about the approx age. It is obviously an old piece, perhaps Nouveau?
Thanking you all in advance Sue IP: Logged |

I actually have a piece with the same sailboat mark! Mine is a silverplate cigarette box with an enemalled plaque on the top. I would imagine that the urn casing is also silverplate. On examining my box closely, my best guess is that it is of Far Eastern manufacture. Both pieces have an Art Nouveau flavor to them, but I think they are later than turn of the century. Can anyone else shed some light on this piece? Brent IP: Logged |
