I have just acquired a lovely ornate sugar and creamer set that is inscribed on the bottom "Imperial Silver Company, Quadruple Plate, 279". Can anyone tell me anything about this company and the likely age of this set?

Rainwater identifies a trade name of "Imperial Plate" related to the National Silver Company and a trade name of "Imperial Silver Plate Co." related to the A.F. Smith Co. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Circa 1895 would be my guess. Pieces with very similar designs were produced by a number of manufacturers between 1885 and the early 1900s. F.W. Van Bergh patented one of these designs in 1898 (design patent no. 28,610.) Also, the "quadruple plate" marking was not used by manufacturers after about 1912. Hope this helps! IP: Logged |
