My father-in-law asked me to search for this hallmark, which I did to no avail. I really know nothing about silver or silverplate, so if someone could explain what I am looking at here, I am sure I will be able to let the old fella down easy when I tell him his garage sale gem isn't from a sunken spanish galleon. The marks, btw, are on a 9" handled tray. Thanks for any help.... Jim

Hi there, Your marks indicate a piece of English silverplate. The four marks in the center, which are upside down in relation to the others, read "EPNS", which stands for ElectroPlate on Nickel Silver. The J.W.T mark is the trademark of James Walter Tiptaft, working in Birmingham, England after 1886. I hope this helps! Brent IP: Logged |
