I was wondering if you could tell me about some silver my grandparents left me. The stamp on the back says James W. Tufts. Out of Boston.

One is a plate and I do not know what the other one is. It looks kind of like a plate, but it has a handle. I guess for the most part, I wanted to know about what time he was making silver. They could be a present to my grandparents on their anniversary, or they could have been left to them from my great-grandmother. If you could give me some information, I would surely appreciate it.

Thank you for you time.

James W. Tufts
Silver Plate Manufacturer
Boston, Massachusetts
1875-1915

Tufts owned three pharmacies where he became interested in the soda fountain business. Soon he began developing syrups and moved onto the manufacture of soda fountain equipment. Fountain apparatus was silver plated. Eventually he started to make silver plated pitchers & dishes.

Tufts silver plate is well regarded by collectors. It usually commands a premium price among silver plate collectors, both for its quality and its innovative designs.
