I HAVE A SILVER CUP WHICH ON THE BOTTOM SAYS Wm.ROGERS&SON ENGRAVED ON IT HAS THE NAME
BILL AND A DATE OF 12-15-73 I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS 1873 OR 1973 CAN ANY ONE HELP?

You'd think that this would be a simple question, and it is, sort of. The second "actual" William Rogers & Son partnership ended in 1873. Unfortunately, the trade name continued to be used by successor firms, and was absorbed by International Silver Company in 1898. International Silver has used the William Rogers & Son trademark, off and on, up to the present day. So...

What exactly does your cup look like? Does it look 125+ years old? Is it rather large and ornate, with a big, fancy inscription (1870's), or is it a small cylindrical form with the date in block characters (1970's)? A basic description of the cup should tell us all we need to know to date it.
