I have a large coffe/tea service that has the words silver over copper, and about 4 stamps. One is a crown. The others look like initials. Any ideas? IP: Logged |

Hi, Sorry no one got back to you. We have discussed similar pieces in these forums before. In general ,pieces like your set were made in the United States or England in the 20th century. Old Sheffield Plate from the 18th and 19th centuries, where sheet silver is actually fused to copper, has long been prized by collectors. As such, some manufacturers of modern silverplate have used copper as a base for electroplated wares to give it the cachet of old Sheffield plate. Most silverplate is produced on a base of German (nickel) silver or britannia, a hard pewter alloy. Anyway, your set is modern silverplate. If you can describe the marks exactly we MIGHT be able to pin down a manufacturer for you. Many companies used similar marks on plate. I hope this helps! Brent IP: Logged |
