I have this big coffee or tea set marked Reed & Barton With 5 pieces and a big tray. It has these marks on different parts of the handles, One is an (M) the other ones are numbers 2744 24 And the rest said MFD &-PLATED and a number that could be 51 REED BARTON PATED DEC. 10.1 after it may be a 6 or an 8 I would like to know if somebody could help me to find out How old it is?. Welcome to the silver forums! Your marks actually tell you what you want to know, in this case. PAT'ED is short for patented, and the patent date would be December 10, 1916 or 18, depending on whether the last number is the 6 or the 8. This patent is likely for the design itself. Most pieces of a patented design were made within about 10 years of the patent date, so your set probably dates from between 1916 and 1930. I hope this helps! Brent IP: Logged |
