Several years ago I bought a lovely, simple, unadorned Wallace silver soldered coffee pot for my daughter. Since I have persistenly used it for myself, I have begun looking for another one to present to my daughter. I recently came across a new but heavily tarnished Gorham coffee pot in a store selling miscellaneous used stuff. The price is right, but I'm curious about the factory applied white protective coating on the inside of the pot. Does anyone know if such a coating is supposed to be protection against the acids of coffee or tea, or is this pot to be used simply for water? It does have a spout. The pot is tall enough to be a coffee pot. However, it does not have the straight sides such as found on many hotelware coffee pots. The pot bulges out on the sides but not to the extent of traditional teapots. What are the distinguishing features of coffee, tea, water pots or pitchers? Any comments, please?
