I have a 13 1/2" ladle with stamped "W. Tuckey Genuine" on the top of what appears to be an Old Sheffield Silver Plate stem. The silver stem connects with silver rivets to a ribbed pattern pressed leather bowl having a silver disk on the bottom engraved with foliate initials. The handle appears to be baline, is ribbed lengthwise and is attached to the silver stem. I haven't been able to find a W. Tuckey in any of my OSP references. I am hoping someone out there recognizes this. I have pictures but no URL to attach. IP: Logged |

What an interesting piece! Haven't a clue as to the maker, but Tuckey was a longstanding family name in the Channel Islands, so perhaps that is a clue. IP: Logged |

I agree, a very neat piece. One possibility that occurs to me is that it might be an American plater's mark. It is fairly well established from period advertisements that Americans were indeed making OSP and close plate, but very few marked examples have ever turned up. Perhaps Tuckey is listed somehwhere as an American coppersmith? Just a thought. Brent IP: Logged |

The name Tuckey seemed to be from Australia so a fired off an e-mail to Wilson Tuckey who is Minister in the Commonwealth Government of Australia. This was the response: quote: IP: Logged |
