Hi!! I have a beautifully ornate coffee/tea set from Meriden Britannia Company marked #1866 at the bottom of each piece. I saw the exact same set offered on EBay except that the manufacturer was Rogers, Smith, & Co, again with #1866 marked at the bottom of the pieces. What, if any, are the differences between the two sets and is one set worth more than the other? Lastly, how can I establish a date for this pattern number? Thanks in advance, Liz IP: Logged |

Rogers, Smith & Co. obtained some of their holloware "in the metal" from the Meriden Britannia Co., plated it, and stamped their own trademark on it. They also issued catalogs identical to those of the Meriden Britannia Co., changing only the firm name. The 1866 is a stock number, and the numbers were listed in the catalogs. These sets are usually dated by their style and by researching the appropriate catalogs. Anyone familiar with tea set #1866? IP: Logged |
