[21-0436] I came across this in brochante in Paris and could not pry the top off, but was intrigued about the possible use. It's the first one I've come across here. Do we have these in the states? The french maker's marks are so hard to identify, I have another piece with the same marks of a rooster facing right (not WEV's rooster!)with the letters DFes over it (and in a square reserve.) The quality mark of 6g is in another square reserve and over all that is the word Depose and under it is the word Vulcain. I'd love suggestions for a book on the french silverplate makers written in english. I have one for EPNS and that's about it for silverplate.
I did finally pry off the top, and I know what it's for... but wanted to see if everyone else knew, before I posted the rest of the pictures. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Dépose is the French word for registered as in registered trademark. Have you also found the matching children's cigarette case that goes with it? My guess is that the top protects a nipple or similar child's drinking mouthpiece. IP: Logged |

Kimo, I'll scour the city looking for the matching cigarette case (that's pretty funny!)... with any luck, it'll have a matching lighter too Thanks for the info that Dépose is used as is "Brevet." I didn't know, and my Fr/Eng dictionary was not detailed enough to explain this. Merci! Nope - it's not for drinking from directly. No nipples involved, but thanks for the guess. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Here are the rest of the photos. I thought this was pretty cool! You take off the cap, flip over the second piece and replace it on the tumbler. Make the juice. Then flip over the second piece, replace it on the tumbler and recap until ready to pour.(Kimo, we could make kid's "Mimosas")

Suzanne, that is very cool! Don't think I've seen one in any material. I'd think a reamer collector would go nuts for this piece. You make the most interesting finds! Cheryl ;o) IP: Logged |

Hello All, I also have one of these, but mine is without the decoration, about 4 inches tall in FR silver plate. It makes the perfect Martini Shaker for my father, since he only drinks one and no one else enjoys them. Maybe the kids could get an early start on knowing how to make a proper Martini!
