Are there any books available that would help one in identifying patterns for silverplate holloware, possibly by manufacturer? Thanks for your help. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Have you looked at Bones & Fisher's "The Standard Encyclopedia of American Silverplate Flatware and Hollow Ware"? It has a lot of interesting information on some of the twentieth century holloware patterns produced by Oneida and the International Silver Co. It was published in 1998 and is still available. I have the newest one I think, c1998 with updated values as of 2003, but I think there are probably hundreds of patterns not listed. I'm not really interested in values, just pattern names. I tend to collect things I like the looks of rather than those which might be more valuable. I just like to know the name and something about them. Thanks for the info. I'll just keep doing research. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Well, there certainly are much more comprehensive references on flatware patterns. As far as I know, there's no single book that provides more information on twentieth-century plated holloware -- advertisements in old magazines and trade journals seem to be the next best sources for the serious researcher of such items. Some of the "replacements" type web-sites also have a lot of useful info -- once you know what pattern you're looking for. IP: Logged |
