I am sorry I missed the first part of the correspondance. Charles Christofle's plate marks in order are 1/a balance 4 stars above , a bee between the the two bowls & 2 palme leaves below. 2/ the same as above but with number 72 in the center 3/ the same with the number 60 in the center, 4/ same with the number 18 in the center, 5/ a balance two stars above a bee below and a star in the center 6/ the same as 1/ except the 4 stars are in the four corners of a square. 7/ the face of a cat or a fox with wiskers a cc underneath These marks were registered in 1860 and used until 1930. Pleas say hello to Linda for me. IP: Logged |

I still have her in my directory, so I will email her. I have never looked that closely at the bee before. It looks more like a fly swatted on a blotter. IP: Logged |

Labarbedor, I'm not sure where your list came from but it is interesting. It seems to be a list of variations of the "C, scale, C" mark, correct? I believe the 1930 date is incorrect and should be 1935. There are documented examples indicating that "C, scale, C" marks (with four stars, bee, laurel leaves) were used between 1930 and 1935. The other scale marks varied as well. Here's an example of a variation of the "O, scale, C" mark -- in use since 1935. (on top): In addition, and as you probably know, there were other Christofle silverplate marks (such as on the bottom) that haven't even been discussed here -- but those are discussions for a different thread. I included it here because both marks came from the same piece of flatware. IP: Logged |
