I have a question. I've seen a lot of silverplate that is made in Hong Kong or China lately. How does it compare to the pieces produced in the US (not older pieces, but relatively new)? The pieces from Hong Kong and China seem to me to be a lot lighter in weight, although they do say silverplated. Thanks. IP: Logged |

These may be really dumb questions, but I haven't been out shopping for any in a loooong time. What kinds of marks are on the Hong Kong and China pieces? Country of origin? Anything else? [This message has been edited by Stephen (edited 05-09-2003).] IP: Logged |

No marks. Just says silverplated on back with a sticker (made in China) or (made in Hong Kong). I was looking at new baby cups to purchase for Christening gifts. They aren't marked at all on back, but packaging says silverplated. I have also seen a lot of "silverplated" items at auctions and flea markets which have a made in china sticker. IP: Logged |

I did find one that is a set of baby plate, fork and spoon and cup which seems to be heavier. It only has a sticker which says "Godinger Silver Art Co. LTD. made in China. GSA " My daughter has a set of trays that say Wm. Rogers & Son (on box). On the back of the trays it says Silverplated Hong Kong. They seem like nice trays, but are awfully lightweight and thin. (They were a wedding gift 3 years ago for her). Hope this helps. IP: Logged |

I have some thoughts, but I'm going to wait and see what others have to add. (tap, tap, tap, ...) Plus, I will do a little "shopping" this weekend and see what I can discover. IP: Logged |
