Anyone know what this is? It measures 3 5/8" long by 1 1/8 - 1 1/4" round/oval. High relief design of many men with long weapons... hubby thinks it's a Conquistador / Christopher Columbus time period scene. Some men have helmets... some have pilgrim type hats. Marked DENMARK with a fish symbol. IP: Logged |

The lining doesn't look original... it's felt... two pieces on one side... three pieces on the other side... not very evenly set. Someone on another board suggested this might be a minaudiere (miniature hard-body purse)... I went on to researching that possibility but didn't find anything even close to this and nothing this small. The scene is not a feminine scene either. A roll of quarters fits in this thing. It is probably a cheroot case; the Danes had a taste for rather dry, thin cigars of the sort that needed a hard body carrying case just as this. The size would be right. IP: Logged |

I still don't know what it is. These are all the suggestions I've received so far: Poker/casino chip holder.... match holder... snuff box... cheroot case... eyeglass case... lipstick holder... a case just to hold a few smokes... a case that held the men's jewelry for the national costume (Scandinavian).
