I have two 10" oval silver plates by International Silver Co. for the United States Navy.
Bottom of plates read, USN, International Silver Co., X 1 3 0 5, 10 in.
What it does not say is if they are silver soldered, silver plated, or sterling.
Any ideas on the plates??
I'm surprised that they do not say as I have a pitcher that is also for the USN made by Reed and Barton...the pitcher says silver soldered.

About the only thing that would be soldered on a "plate" is a trim around the edge.

Do your plates have a trim around the edge? If so, can you tell whether the trim is stamped or soldered?

There is no trim around the edge and I can not tell any solder or "crimp" marks around the edge, it looks like it just "flows". There is no silver loss anywhere on these plates.

If they were sterling, they would be marked "STERLING".

If they tarnish, they are undoubtedly silverplate.
