Here's a litle unmarked piece just 4" long and 5/8" at the widest. It's very pretty with the Lilly of the Valley (Muguet)design and tarnishes like silverplate. I found it in France. I'd love to know it's original purpose. The (fleamarket!) seller said it was to hold needles, but it's much bigger than any needle holder I've ever seen. There's a layer of baby blue color coating most of the inside of the top piece. Does anyone know what this was intended to hold.

Pencil holder, perhaps? The light blue color on the inside could be paint that scraped off the pencil it once held. IP: Logged |

Tapestry or surgical needles can be pretty big, but the baby blue does conjure some form of artist's material. How do the pictures get so huge? Vera. IP: Logged |

I am out of the office today. When I get back, I will fix the images for doobees. Doobees you must have a new camera. I am sure if you look at the "destructions" that came with the camera and/or the imaging editing software it will explain how to resize images. Sometimes the software is online and is downloadable after you register you camera. Please do not post any more images until you learn how to size them to a maximum width of 490 pixels at 72 dpi. Thanks IP: Logged |

Paul, a French friend here says that it's to hold a pencil. She said it is typically for a carpenter, but this seems a bit fussy for carpentry work. I'll look deeper into the pencil holder theory... Merci! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Suzanne D, Don't forget how to reset it huge. You could develop an entire new ouevre in reference material. No one will ever have to squint again, and companies like Vuitton and Dupont wil have an unprecedented market to design carrying cases for. Vera. IP: Logged |

Hey Vera, It is pretty cool though, huh! I can't wait to try it one some of my teeny french marks. As for the "whatzit"... definitely a pencil holder. I saw one today with a pencil in place. ------------------ IP: Logged |

It is a Nikon Coolpix! How did you know? I spend hours in the camera department having the salesguys try to photograph hallmarks. They thought I was nuts. They'd try to sell me on the great photos I'd have of my kids and their babies... but I just kept trying to get good shots of spoons... ------------------ IP: Logged |

I did the same thing. If you think spoons are bad, try the marks inside rings. They kept asking me if I was a dentist! Vera. IP: Logged |
