[21-510] Hi, I finally ID'd an old food pusher that has R. & B. on the back. Flower pattern with a thin vine. It may have been my great grandfather's, and I don't need an appraisal for $, just would love to know date and what it is? I am thinking Robbe & Berking, but could it be Reed and Barton? There are no circles or anything, just the initials as above, with the period marks. I have a picture if anyone wants to email me. Thanks awfully for any help, it would be great. Thanks again, IP: Logged |

Rainwater, at least, doesn't show a 'R.&B.' mark for Reed and Barton. Robbe & Berking does at present use an 'R&B' but without periods. Also, on an Robbe &B. piece I would expect to see a quality mark. How old do you estimate your piece to be? IP: Logged |

Looks like the Reed & Barton silverplate pattern named Poppy that was introduced in 1914. The R&B trademark was owned by International Silver Co. IP: Logged |

On old silverplate, prior to WW2, R&B always stands for Rogers and Brothers. Finally in frustration Reed & Barton bought the mark sometime after 1945. The old silverplate mark for them is: Arnbee. The pattern is Poppy, which is generally dated at 1914, which seems late for this pattern. It shows up in odd lots and strange groupings which makes me suspect it was a premium for some product. Sometimes patterns of this type were first pattented by the retailer and then later by the maker. And somethimes they just sort of pop up. IP: Logged |
