I recently purchased a large serving tray stamped, "SILVER ON COPPER," with what appears to be either dragons or lions on each side of that mark. The creatures are right-facing, and standing on their hind legs with front paws outstretched. There is an "S" in a circle under each one where the hind legs would be. They seem to have a fan-like tail or perhaps wings. Can anyone identify this hallmark? I don't even know if it's English, Irish, Scottish, or what. This is my first foray into this forum, so I can't wait to see what if any feedback I might get. I am presenting this as a wedding gift, and would like to have some information to provide to the newlyweds about this piece. I have a picture, which I could easily email to anyone. Thank you!

In order for the most people to learn the most from this forum, it is always preferred that answers and pictures be posted here. Nearly every Internet Service Provider gives their customers at least a small amount of webspace to use for whatever they wish. You can upload your picture to that source and place it in a post here by using the terms . You'd be amazed how many more responses you will get!

Yes, I agree. That's why I spent hours trying to get a picture online. I used my HP Upload to the Web program, and finally got the picture to appear on a website, then tried to enter the URL on the post, but it didn't work. The verbal description of the URL appeared instead. On other forums, I've been able to "browse" through my .jpg pictures, and click on the one I want to appear. I'll keep trying, because once I figure it out, I'll be able to do it easily the next time.

Every forum seems to be slightly different in the way to post photos on it. The easiest way to post on this forum is to scroll to the top of the page and click on the link "How to Post Photos" and just follow the directions there.

Even the verbal description (known as the URL) would have been better than nothing, since it is quite easy for reader's to copy and paste the URL and get the picture to load up.

No matter how good our original verbal/written descriptions are, I've learned that you really have to post a picture for people to feel comfortable id'ing something - and even then, it is possible that no one has the answer, but at least they know they aren't misidentifying something based on another person's perception. ;-D

Yes, I'm quite familiar with the Smilies and I can't stand the non-character ones. Guess I've been using the old style ones too long!
