I am trying to date a Meriden SP piece. The stamp says Meriden S.P. Co. International S. Co. with the number 579. It is a tray with an ornate handle, is hammered (dimpled?)and has tiny flower & leaf designs between "cut out" areas. The sides of the tray are curved / curled upward about 1-1/2 inches. The tray measures 8" X 8", is on a 3/4" base / pedestal which is 4" in diameter. The height including handle is about 5". I am having a hard time finding information on this piece online. I hope I've described it well enough for someone to recognize and perhaps share information about. Thank you! IP: Logged |

This sounds a bit like a calling card stand. Usually silver plate can not be dated from a mark alone. A picture would really help us in figuring out the age etc. The hammered details could be from the Aesthetic period in the 1870's and 80's; or Arts and Crafts from the 1910's. The cut outs are more typical of the latter time, but not always. Sounds like a nice item. IP: Logged |

Thank you for your quick response Dale. I have a digital photograph of this, but not sure how to upload it yet. I am newly registered and still reading. I will post a picture as soon as possible and hope it will help. Again, thank you! IP: Logged |

The Meriden Silverplate Company was one of the original members of the International Silver Co. which was created in 1898 as a sort of merger of several different manufacturers. Thus your piece must date to 1898 at the very earliest - although the design might be a little earlier IP: Logged |
