Hi i have a milk jug and sugar bowl, BLENHEIM is engraved on the sides, underneath they are marked, i understand that are electoplate nickel silver, i have also found out that slater bros were razor and cutlery makers, just wondering what the "venture" stands for and "Blenheim" stands for slater bros [This message has been edited by KEV (edited 04-12-2004).] IP: Logged |

I believe the original Slater brothers were Warrington (born 1839) and Walter. The company is still in existance, making mainly knives for butchers and chefs, and trades as Herbert M. Slater (1853) Ltd. Their current location is at the Venture Works, 78 Hoyle Street, Sheffield, which may explain the "Venture" on the base of your pieces. There are a number of Blenheim Hotels in England, which may be a possibility for the other inscription. IP: Logged |
