Hi, i have this cruet set, and was wondering if it would be worth getting it re plated. It has 4 pots, and the stand is very badly pitted and corroded. Its marks are WH & S BP which i believe to be made by William Hutton and Sons Britannia Plated. Also MP over A. And a star pressed in the center of the base. Would it pay to have it replated or not. Thanks.

See this previous discussion (Does replating affect value) in the Silver Plate Forum on this subject. It contains links to two others. You will find the search function at the top of the page useful for subjects that are likely to have been dealt with previously.

I'm a novice, but today at the library,I read that a piece can be re-electroplated. However, if a piece was rusted, it did not recommend it.

Silverplate is not bringing big prices on our market, so one would think you would have to think of the cost of fixing it.

I tend to feel that replating is mainly a matter of taste. If you are going to use the item, if it has sentimental value, then go for it. On the other hand, it almost never pays for resale. On yet a further hand, caster sets are inherently prone to pitting and corrosion since they deal with things that pit and corrode silver.
