Hi If anyone has a little moment for me, is it worth collecting Elkington silver plate items? Is there a market for these items ? I purchased some lovely stuff recently but if the market is not there, I will chuck it all away. IP: Logged |

Elkington were the pioneers of commercial silverplating back in the 1840s. Since then they have had a long history producing some wonderful pieces and others which, while usually of high quality, lack that "something special". This forum doesn't go into specific values, but, in general, some silverplate can be highly collectable (occasionally even fetching prices higher than solid silver). Elkington is a very respectable firm. I would suggest you monitor sites such as e-bay to see what pieces similar to yours are making. IP: Logged |

"I purchased some lovely stuff recently but if the market is not there, I will chuck it all away" Am I alone in thinking that there is something very very sad about that sentence? IP: Logged |

Hi Adelapt, Thanks for your response. I meant to say that if Elkington was not "collectable", I would not pursue my purchasing any more and maybe just get rid of what I have, although it is very pretty. IP: Logged |
