I have a creamer and sugar with the hallmarks in a circle the letters "JD" and then another circle with "&" in it and then a circle with "S" in it and then a sideways circle with "EP" and then a shield that looks like a tree in it. It was mentioned before that it may be a James Dixon and Son from Sheffield but when I borrowed the Rainwater Silver Manufacturers it doesn't resemble the hallmark listed there. Below it though is the name of James. M. Dixon from Chicago, Illinois, listed in 1854-55 Chicago Directory as a silverplater. I went on a search for this American maker, but can't find anything on it. Can anyone help me with these marks? IP: Logged |

Another JD&S possibility is James Deakin & Sons, also of Sheffield, England. A photo would be very useful! IP: Logged |

These are most likely the marks of James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, Endland, prolific makers and exporters to America of silver plate. The EP stands for electroplate. Rainwater has only American marks, so you would not expect to find these marks there. IP: Logged |
