I have seen this impressed on a few silver plated pieces which I have made by W Hutton and son. I have not been able to find the meaning in the reference books which I have. What does this refer to? Thanks mucho, Suz IP: Logged |

This usually refers to the solder being a more modern one. Older soldering tended to use a soft solder that had a melting point not too different from that of the plated metal. Which is why repair can be so tricky. I have seen enough pieces where the solder melted the surrounding metal to understand that. The hard solder does not necessarily have that problem. But test first. IP: Logged |
