I have a serving or soup spoon that I assume is silver plated. It has what I think is a shrew on the inside of the handle with DB&S in a round cornered rectangle, a crown in a round cornered square and a shield with NS inside at the top and A1 inside at the bottom. IP: Logged |

The crown suggests that it was made in Sheffield, and, yes, the A1 idnicates that it is silver plate. I cannot help with the maker. IP: Logged |

Could be Daniel Bingham & Son who were Sheffield electroplaters between 1923 and 1934 -- but I have not seen their mark at all. NS is Nickel Silver (which has no silver in it - being an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel) and is pretty much the best base metal for electroplating with silver. Some plated wares are marked EPNS, some EP, some EPS, some NS etc. A1 is a (sometimes spurious) mark used intended to indicate high quality - but not always doing so! IP: Logged |
