Silverplate Forum Sheffield tray...need help identifying it

this large tray, very ornate handlews, and grapevine pattern all around the edge, has the following markings on the bottom: first, it has the Sheffield Crown, then an ornate "M", followed by an equally ornate "L" - both of which have Serifs, followed by the "sterling lion", signifying .925 pure. Underneath, it states "silver on copper" so, exactly what did I inherit....how old is it? any help would be greatly appreciated IP: Logged |

Since you placed this in the Silverplate Forum, I suppose you know it is electroplated. The marks are not hallmarks and do not convey the information that hallmarks do. See the Hallmark Faq and the dating silverplate faq for further information. If you can put up a photograph of the marks, someone may be able to identify the trade mark for you.
