Greetings: I found this in the attic of an old home some time ago and it was blacker than black! After much elbow grease & polish I uncovered what I believe is silverplate composition. It is showing a lot of copper. This piece has a very "buttery" feel. The bottom is crimped around the edge, there is a center rod and also coal like pieces tucked inside it. Is this old, homemade or what?? Any info sincerely appreciated!! IP: Logged |

Most likely an inexpensive electroplate factory made candlestick. The rod functions as an ejector for the stub of the candle once it burns down too low to grasp. The lumps of stuff inside the base are the remnants of the resin (or similar) which was used to weight the base to make the whole affair more stable, or which otherwise filled the whole stick if it was of thin metal, to give it some substance.
