I'm sorry this is a duplicate post. I am new to the Forums and the topic on the original post was incorrect. I have a fairly ornate small, round tray on 3 feet, with the following mark H C & Co S, underneath the letters are the numbers 2411. Can anyone tell me anything about the company and the age of this piece? I also have a small rectangular galley tray on legs with a mark The Sheffield Silver Co. - Made in USA - EPC - 9H8. I assume the Sheffield piece is not an old piece. Thanks IP: Logged |

A picture would make things easier. The number is probably a stock number for ordering the piece. I suspect "EPC" stands for "electroplated copper." I found a reference to H.H. Curtis & Co. of North Attleboro, MA, in business from 1890-1915. I could not find H.C. & Co., though. Good luck, IP: Logged |

Thanks for your reply. I am waiting for a digital camera for my B-day in April. I suggested that I get it for an early present, but I guess my son didn't hear that part of the request. The mark is definetly H.C & Co. followed by an S. [This message has been edited by sandyinbaltimore (edited 02-12-2005).] IP: Logged |

If the piece says 'Sheffield Plate' it is not Sheffield aka Fusion Plate. It is an electroplated rendition of classic Sheffield type designs. HC & Co may be a retailer. These designs have been popular for a century at least. IP: Logged |
