A gentleman approached me for information on an old family piece, an caster frame of unusual design. I was able to identify the applied mark as that used by Roswell Gleason & Sons, circa 1860.
Family tradition indicates that the original owners lived in Vicksburg Ms and, during the Civil War, buried it and other family valuable before the Union troops took the city. However the piece made its way through time, it has survived in excellent condition; the silverplating in good fettle, though lightly tarnished and the twist top mechanism still works fine, opening the doors to reveal the assorted condiment bottles, which are complete and intact. It has been years since I last saw it......I know I have the patent papers filed away somewhere..... I can't say for sure that they will surface anytime soon but if you had the patent number it might prove helpful. IP: Logged |
