Hi,

I am new to silver collecting, but finding it fascinating! I have a silent butler, small, round, electroplate over copper, made in the USA by the Sheffield Silver Co.
Model # 300, has a rearing horse on the front and a wood handle. In need of a polish, and has a few scratches, but no copper showing through. I'm sure it's 20th century, but is there any way to determine it's age more closely? Did Reed and Barton put a mark on Sheffield silverplate when they bought them out?

Thanks for any help - I'm a bit bewildered!

Age can not be determined on Sheffield style pieces very well. Popular items could and did remain in production for long periods of time. The rearing horse sounds like a vague type of heraldic device. The shape and configuration of your piece is something that remained in production from the 1900's down into the present.
