TBC Posts: 134 Registered: Jan 2005	posted 07-28-2005 02:53 PM Earlier today I visited a good friend who has quite a collection of silver. Amongst the items I could not identify was a silver plated "sugar scuttle". I'm posting a picture of the hallmark and of the item. It is a very nice piece and I half hoped it might be Sheffield plate - something about which I know nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely, Tom IP: Logged
adelapt Posts: 418 Registered: May 2003	posted 07-28-2005 06:24 PM Although the marks didn't show up well, the style of the object indicates that it's likely to be later than the main period of Sheffield plate, so more likely electroplated and possibly on a Britannia metal base. IP: Logged

The marks found are numerous, and usually obscure. As far as I know, they have been made everywhere and by everybody. What leads me to conclude that the design is owned by a wholesaler who puts production out for bid. IP: Logged
