I have a silver(?) plate with handle that has on the back Rogers 1881 EPNS. Beneath that is the number 01338. It has a handle and is a fairly ornate piece. It has carvings of what appear to be chandeliers on the face which are connected by banners that have wheat stalks carved into them. I recently received this piece from my Grandmother, who is now 102 years of age. Can anyone help me identify/value it? IP: Logged |

Please go back and re-read the post at the top of this page where it says "Please read before you post". One of our few but most important forum rules is that you may not ask for values. You may go to your local appraiser or look on internet auction sites for similar items to get ideas of values. If your only interest is to learn more about a plate that you are keeping for yourself in remembrance of your grandmother, we will be happy to try to help if you will post a bit more information and a clear photo or two (you will find instructions on how to correctly post photos under the big green box at the top of each page where is says "How to post photos"). In the meantime, I can tell you that your plate is silver plated on a nickel alloy - not silver; and that it is not from circa 1881 since that is simply part of one of the brand names used by the company that made it. Silverplate companies frequently used the date of their organization in their names: 1847 Rogers, 1881 Rogers, 1835 Wallace. 1881 Rogers is a mark of the Oneida Company. It was used extensively on flatware prior to World War I. Hollow ware seems to appear after 1920. A picture might help us to connect it to a flatware pattern. From your description this sounds like something from the 20's. IP: Logged |
