I recently had a delightful find: four dinner knives and one butter knife, each engraved with "R" on the end of the handles. On the opposite side of the handles "St. Regis" is engraved. I originally researched silverware for St. Regis, and found an Oneida pattern: but it wasn't the same as mine. Then, through much greater research, I learned that I had St. Regis Hotel silverplated/stainless. The St. Regis Hotel was built by the late Colonel John Jacob Astor IV in 1904. The Colonel went down with the Titanic in 1912. The St. Regis has been a landmark for the rich, famous, and infamous all these years! Just wanted to share my story. I always enjoy reading others' stories! The maker's mark is just at the tip of the handle near the blade, or, if you will please excuse my ignorance here, is that part of the pattern? If anyone cares to respond, it will be appreciated. Thank you so much. IP: Logged |

Oneida was, and probably still is, a leading maker of hotel and restarant cutlery. The company offered a separate line intended for the commercial trade. But it appears to me that they also were ready and able to upgrade any pattern they had to hotel grade, which has more silver than that for the home. If you could post a picture of the handle, it probably is identifiable. The company name is really not a part of the pattern. IP: Logged |

Thank you for your information.
Photo may not be clear as I could get it with some helpful devices--but this is all I have at this time. IP: Logged |
