[26-0734] Please help with this mark on the bottom of this coffeepot that was my grandmother's. As far as I can read it says MI&G (two letters I cannot make out) then EPGS. There are no hallmarks. Thanks so much.

This appears to mean 'electroplate on german silver'. The 1 1/2 probably refers to capacity, 1 1/2 pints or 3 cups. This is a nice piece, most likely a chocolate pot. MI &G may be the name of a railroad, Michigan and something. Frequently such pots were made for railroads and restaurants. IP: Logged |

Maybe just a remark: it is not because of a sideways handle that the object is a chocolate pot. If it is a genuine chocoltate pot, the lid must conceal a hole, through which a (mostly wooden, sometimes ivory) stick to stirr the hot milk is to be put. Mostly the lid has a swiveling top to open or close the hole. If it doesn't have the hole, it is just a coffeepot, with the handle sideways. IP: Logged |
