[26-0596] I recently purchased this wonderful goblet on line. It is silver over copper with just a touch of copper showing through the rim base.I have never seen real Sheffield plate but this seems to meet most of the requirements.Crossed keys, crown and a kings head? Can you date this for me and give the real scoop? Thanks! IP: Logged |

hi there, I'm not sure if these marks qualify your item as "sheffield plate". My Bradbury's says that marks with the Cross Keys are most appropriately termed electro-plate. The fact that the crown is present would indicate that, if the maker was a law-abiding citizen, he or she would have made this item pre 1896. So, my sense is that the item is electro-plate and pre-1896. I could be wrong, and if so, I'm sure one of the many experts here will set the matter straight. Rgds, Tom TBC IP: Logged |
