I need help, please. I have a tea set which was given to my grandmother as a wedding gift in about 1910. The mark says "made in U.S.A., quadruple plate, Human Mfg. Co. It has the number 1206, special metal, 20 on the tray, and on the pitchers etc it has the number 2237, special metal, 20. Can anyone help me identify this set further? IP: Logged |

Your set is American silverplate. I suspect the mark is actually Homan Mfg Co, perhaps somebody with Rainwater handy can provide more info (although "Human Mfg Co" is rather amusing and thought-provoking ). Quadruple plate refers to the number of thin layers of actual silver on top of the base (or "special") metal, which is usually just some kind of white metal. Hope this helps!
