Hi everyone... I have a Sheffield silver dessert set complete with case. I believe it dates around 1950 so it's not exactly an antique... it was made by Viners Ltd. I was wondering if anyone knows what these markings represent: "GP" ; "extra A"... they all have Sheffield England engraved on them too... I guessed 1950's but if anyone thinks they would know it's age more accurately you are more than welcome to say so. Thank you very much!

Welcome to the forum, Francesca. Your pieces are electroplate, and made in Sheffield, but technically not "Sheffield Plate", which was made by a different process and is no longer being made. They are certainly 20th Century. The "Extra A" probably is meant to imply an extra heavy deposit of silver coating the base metal. IP: Logged |
