Interesting pieces identified with Canadian National Railways made by Can. Wm. A. Roger Ltd. They were found in an old railroad cemetery by a family member working for the railways and put on display with his old Lionel trains. When passed on to me, both were almost solid thick black smoke and tarnish. Don't know how but it took weeks to get to the marks and real color. The photo's of the marks show that each are soldered but one is hard soldered the other silver soldered. The little tray I think was used as a tip tray and the pot a vessel to hold hot water for tea or coffee on a dining car. Surely the maintenance was not handled with kid gloves in this type of environment but after so many years they deserve some tender loving care. Can anyone give me some clues as to an easier way to keep the tarnish from building up so frequently or is it the EPNS that makes it come back so quickly? Our family is proud of these pieces of history and am happy to share a photo of them along with the marks. Top is mark of tray, bottom is mark of pot.
Any info about the company would also be appreciated. IP: Logged |

Scott thank you! Read every bit of it and was prompted to read on and on and on. Amazing how much information you can get from just one reply. When reading on I ran across some very "logical" ways to keep the tarnish from returning so frequently. Since moving to the Pacific Northwest I have noticed that things tarnish more quickly and require more care. Just finished reading about the possible uses of charcoal - makes a lot of since as we have used charcoal to maintain clarity in our aquariums with great success. AND a home charcoal activated air filtration system seems to help my sister with her large collection of plates, etc. (I got the silver and she got the plates in our family estate). I may consider the charcoal also. IP: Logged |
