At the Baltimore Summer Antiques Fair this past Labor Day weekend, Antique Cupboard showed a unique set of Shiebler Flora flatware that included 12 "banquet-size" (10 3/16 in.) table knives. Each was marked on the front of its silver-plated blade with the Shiebler (winged S) trademark. This would seem to indicate that the Shiebler Company produced these blades. Does anyone know whether Shiebler routinely made its own silver-plated blades as opposed to buying them from a supplier and whether the firm made any other plated items? IP: Logged |

I have seen Shiebler steel and silver plate knife blades. I don’t expect the plating was ever very good because most often all that is left is the steel. The following is from a Shiebler Louvre carving knife (see the Book Of Silver, V1 R2.D, S0191)

Thanks, Scott. By the way, on the Flora table knives I cite above, the plating is well-preserved. IP: Logged |
