I have a "piece" that I believe is a creamer. The markings on the bottom say IS then Hotel Statler. Then many different sets of numbers then at the bottom the initials AH after the Patient number. Can anyone tell me anything? chellmom2000 IP: Logged |

I am not an expert on silver. However, having read nearly every post for over a year now, I can suggest with confidence that a good place to start would be a search in the forum for International Silver. IP: Logged |

Silverplated "hotel ware" made by International Silver. This kind of silverplate tends to have a thicker than normal layer of silverplate so that it will withstand the harsh everyday use in a hotel restaurant. By the time this kind of object is sold off by a hotel, much of the silver has been worn off. The ones that tend to be most collected are those with the engraved names and monograms from famous, long gone hotels on their sides. IP: Logged |

Statler Hotels were among the first "chain" hotels in the country, founded by EM Statler; he called them "complete hotels". The first was built in Buffalo in 1901 or so, but there were several others around the country, including St. Louis, Washington DC, Boston and Detroit. Statler Hotel Corporation was bought by Hilton in the 1950's. Because people tended to take such items home as a souvenir, it's difficult to say which one it came from. IP: Logged |
