Above is a silver plated sugar basket that my wife found last week in Nashville. Hearts were abundant last week and this is a nice basket with a mark that may be a representation of a hand holding a bouquet of flowers. IP: Logged |

This appears to be a nice reproduction/ adaptation of an older piece. The mark is vaguely familiar, probably an adaptation of an older mark. Psuedish is probably an accurate description. Production of these seems to wander the earth. I have seen such pieces marked: Israel, India, Spain, Peru, and other countries. The way it seems to work is that the owner of the design puts it out for a bid. The winning bidder then produces a large quantity which is then shipped to the wholesaler. When that quantity is exhausted, the bid goes out again. The question really should be who owns the design. IP: Logged |

Mark looks to me like the hand w/Prince of Wales plume used by Sheffield, England silverplate manufacturer Atkin Bros. ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

Thanks Dale and Dragonflywink. The basket was almost black when we got it, but cleaned up to show a nice patina. I thought the heart was a little too bold to be English silverplate. I will try to find out a little more about the Atkin Bros. I just did by a trip to the eBay. The first Atkins I called up had the same mark. If you know what to search for eBay is a great resource.
