Someone told me it must be English but I cannot find that sort of crown for England. Under the crown are EP. Than from the left to the right: B T, H or N, B, S Its a strange form I think and its rather a little fork, about 6,5" long (16,5cm). I hope someone can help me identify and date it. Thanks! Suggest that the EP might stand for Electro Plate. IP: Logged |

yes, but it seems strange to me just under a crown I couldn't place somewhere in England... so I thought it was from the maker IP: Logged |

Rather than strange, I find it to be a typical electroplated mark. Addendum: Often called "pseudo-hallmarks", designed to deceive the careless or hypermetropic observer. [This message has been edited by salmoned (edited 04-18-2006).] IP: Logged |

There are no marking requirements for electroplated silver so it is fairly common for its makers to apply somewhat elaborate markings that resemble but do not encroach on any legally established markings that are used on silver. They simply come up with designs that they feel will help market their products. The shape of a crown or other design on this type of object typically does not relate to a particular country.
