[26-1110] I recently found a few pieces while cleaning out an older house and was wondering if anyone knew just what these pieces were ? They are Meriden b co. and they say quadruple plate on the bottom. They also say 200L and u.s.a. on the bottoms as well. Here is a picture (I have not cleaned them up yet) Thanks,

Jacobennis, Welcome to the forum! I do have a little info on your silver. It would have helped if you had posted a pic of the trademark. Anyway, suspect the silver was by Meriden Britannia Company of Meriden CT. They were organized in 1852, by 1855 were offering plated silver holloware, and in "1896 they ceased stamping their products 'Quadruple' plate." The 200L is probably the pattern number. --- Susan IP: Logged |

Welcome to the forum Jake.... Will this silver find launch you as a silver collector? Meridan is one of my favorite of the silver plated items. If you use the search feature here you should learn alot about that silver company. I hope you will continue to be a forum member. Nice find. The 200L mark is very curious. I have never seen a mark with number + letter on Meriden Britannia ware. The maker's mark without the balanced scales logo indicates the piece is early Meriden Britannia ware 1850's- 1860's. IP: Logged |
