[26-1254] I got this at an auction just outside of Philadelphia. I'm assuming the PHILA means it originated in Philadelphia. Guess it stayed in the area if that's actually the case. Searches have turned up nothing on this maker, though. For what it's worth, weight is 2 lbs, 4.6 oz-about 9" tall. IP: Logged |

Nice job with the pictures, on your first visit, and welcome to the forum. It would be helpful if you told us a little about yourself and your interest in silver. Also can you write what the makers mark says, or is PHILD all there is? IP: Logged |

I guess my interest in silver started with a set of spoons that belonged to my grandmother. I've had them for years, but never really paid attention to them...until recently. They are a set of twelve sterling spoons, in the original leather case. I spent hours online educating myself on hallmarks and finally deciphered their British origin. I found it absolutely fascinating that these marks could reveal so much information that I then began researching every other piece of silver I own. I discovered a couple pieces of sterling that I should kick myself for storing the way I did! (Not knowing what they were-some things I've had since I was a teenager-always liked antiques-should have known what I had though!) Even with the hours of research I've done, I'm still quite a novice. However, I'm hooked on silver. Don't know what it will lead to, but I am loving every new thing I learn, and looking for new pieces all the time now-only at bargain prices, though! The pitcher...was definitely a bargain, so if it turns out to be nothing, I can water my plants with it and still get my money's worth. This is the first time I haven't been able to find any information on a maker, though. Guess it leads me to believe it might be rare (Yikes...as I hold my breath for daring to even suggest that!) The Maker's Mark reads: There is also 825 to the right of the maker's mark. Would it help to have pictures of the inside? Or, more pic's of the outside? IP: Logged |

No info on the maker, but if the pitcher is as beautiful as it looks to be, don't use it to water the plants. Set it on the table and serve your iced tea in style. IP: Logged |

Yes, rian is right it is lovely. Deejay, what I do is kick myself for the items I let get away, in my ignorance. One just two weeks ago. I had picked the ladle up on several trips to one of the stores I "haunt" and was too lazy I guess to get out my loupe. Well my friend who recently got hooked on silver (by me *sigh*) looked harder and saw it was old English sterling mid 188o's, I think he said. IP: Logged |

I have never heard of the maker either, which is not surprising. The band around with the scenes is one that I have seen on Reed & Barton work of the 1870's and 80's. Who did make a lot of plate for the restaurant trade. Lindsenmeyer might have owned a hotel or restaurant. Of jewelry store. There is quite a bit of privately labled silverplate. Another use is to put a wine bottle in with cool water for chilling. These old pitchers are amazingly versatile. IP: Logged |

It just occurred to me that I never did get around to thanking everybody for replies regarding this pitcher. I came back to do so on several occasions but got sidetracked every time by reading other posts! I was then too tired to think straight...last night I think it was -A Very Mysterious Coconut Cup-GungaDin12345/dostoyevsky, that kept me up way too late...fascinating saga! By the way, I was just kidding about using the pitcher to water my plants!!! Thanks to all for your time and input. All of those old posts I read were quite enlightening as to the level of expertise that exists here. Admirable! IP: Logged |
