I just added Henry Hubbard Hayden to my project. He was issued 4 patents for flatware designs as assignor to H. B. & H. Two of these, d3292 and d3300 of 1868, look, from the rather bad images, to be the same, the pattern now termed "Roman"
Does anyone know the firm's designs well enough to say what differences there are between the two? IP: Logged |

HBH patterns tend to vary quite a bit. The company either made succesive dies or suffered a lot of imitation. My understanding is that HBH flatware was made for a long time and sold as a low priced, catalog product. It appears to have been available both as elecdto-plate and pewter. Beyond that, don't know much about them. Any variance is to be expected, they seem to have had very lax quality control. IP: Logged |

Although the patterns for both patents are identical, the reason for two separate patent numbers is what the inventor (designer) claimed and desired to secure by letter of patent under each number which was not the same. It would be easy to imagine a reasonable explanation for this occurring, but on the surface the preceding is about it. IP: Logged |
