Hello all, I have encountered a little bit of institutional silverplate in custom patterns by SMITH SILVER COMPANY. Pictured are two examples, a teaspoon from the Fountain Room at the Continental Hotel in Philadelphia, and some demitasse spoons from the L'AIGLON restaurant in New York City. Both seem to date from the 1920s or so. The die cutting is very well done; the Fountain Room particularly so. It uses the same techniques of ivory carvers to give the impression of depth of view. I have seen a few of these for sale, always alone, so I suspect many people took one home as a "souvenir". Anyway, does anyone know which Smith Silver co. actually made these pieces? There are a few in Rainwater. Also, does anyone have additional patterns to share? There must be others out there. Brent IP: Logged |
