[26-2112] I am helping an elderly couple clean up and reorganize their house. In doing so we have run across a number of silver items (or silver plated?) for which we would like further info. The first of these are 2 small creamers(?). The bottom of the creamers are inscribed with Benedict Indestructo - E.P.N.S - Made in U.S.A. - 1350. Through research I know what EPNS stands for but am unsure of the other markings? Also on the side of the object is inscribed (in script) "Hotel Henry". Can anyone provide further info? Maybe an approx age? IP: Logged |

I apologize for the photo. As for the creamer, they are not sure where it came from or how old it is. They want to determine if it is worth keeping and passing on to their children or just given to a thrift shop. IP: Logged |

Thank you for that information. From those sites I can estimate that the age to be somewhere between 65-90yrs old and judging by that the couple figures that the creamers may have been used by the wife's parents on their honeymoon and therefore has decided to keep them for sentimental reasons. I have another item that they wish information on and will post. I am not a collector of silver (i do collect coins and currency) but these are friends of mine and asked if i can do some research on these items. The couple is in their 90's and only wish to have the information to determine whether to pass on the items to family or give them away to thrift shops. IP: Logged |

The Hotel Henry engraving on it means that it is what is commonly called 'hotelware'. This kind of silverware was purchased in large quantities by hotels and other institutions for use in their restaurants and room service. It is typically heavy duty tableware with electroplated silver. Most of what you see in private hands was either stolen from the hotel or its restaurant by someone who wanted to make off with a souvenir other than a towel or ashtray, or it was very worn out and was tossed away in a trash bin then recovered by someone.
