[26-1423] I have a silver plated fluted vase. It has carved dutch scenery around the top and bottom. On the under side the mark H S C(or G). I have pics and would be glad to post for further identification. It has been in the family for many generations and the story of when and where it was made has long been lost.Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks IP: Logged |

Hemill Silver Company, working out of New York around 1920 to 1930. The part of the C that makes it look like it could be a G is actually a tiny letter O in the center of the letter C which makes it a kind of stylized version of Co. One always needs to take family histories that go with heirlooms with a very large grain of salt. In my experience such stories tend to be correct about 5% of the time, partially correct/altered about 25% of the time, and just plain incorrect the rest of the time. Depending on your age and assuming someone in your family bought this when it was new, the vase would have been in your family for a couple of generations rather than many generations. I think it is a very attactive vase and it would look very elegant with a nice dried flower arrangement. IP: Logged |
